Time to Get Things Rolling

The Maze Garden at Vizcaya

It has been a whirlwind year for me. So many things have happened in the span of a few short months it's been hard to keep up with everything, so to satisfy my curious public, here is what's been happening.

New Inspiration
For my birthday (and a little inspiration) Patrick and I visited the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, near Miami's Coral Gables. It was truly amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The summer home to John Deering, the inventor of modern farm equipment, Vizcaya remains one of the best examples of Italian style architecture in the country. Built around the turn of last century, it features fossilized coral quarried in Miami and the Florida Keys, rather than marble, in its innumerous sculptures, fountains and foundations.
The Terrace Garden at Vizcaya
The ornateness of the Baroque and Renaissance styles within the grounds lends itself easily to interpretation in beadwork. I will keep the amazing craftsmanship in my subconscious mind as I plunge along with this ancient art that I love.

New Space
February 1, I have joined the Portside Studio, part of the Artist Colony at the Esplanade on Marco Island. Our gallery now includes myself, along with oil painter Inez Hudson and acrylics artist Carolyn Burger.

See me at work in the studio every Wednesday from 11AM to 7PM, or plan a special visit to our Art Walk the last Wednesday of every month to sample wines and taste my veggie quiche. The next one is already (it snuck up on me) next Wednesday, March 30 from 5-7PM.

New Medium
My metal clay master tool kit arrived from Rio Grande this week. I will soon be able to integrate one of a kind fine silver beads and sculptural elements into my designs. Right now, I'm firing the first two pieces which will be a pair of necklace charms in .999 silver, modeled after a king crown shell. I'm hoping to add a new category "shell punk" to my Etsy shop once these pieces are completed.

Next week I'll be attending my cousin's exhibit of street art in NYC. More news and photos, and posts to come.
